Glanton Show 2014

Our 2014 show was a resounding success – those who were there had a great afternoon and feedback was very positive.  We had lots of entries in the marquee – a record for recent years, over 950 – can we break the thousand barrier in 2015?!  Standards were very high, and you gave the judges a very hard job, judging took a good half hour longer than usual.  The Alnwick Playhouse Band did a great job of keeping us entertained between events in the Show Ring – starting with a medley from James Bond was inspired and may have to become a tradition (no doubt especially enjoyed by the wonderful Classic Cars!), and the huge variety of music they played kept everyone guessing about what would be next!  There were so many good stalls for browsing and buying, and plenty for the youngsters too, some fantastic painted faces emerged during the afternoon, and sports, archery (very popular) and various animals to admire (and in some cases pick up!) and the amazing sheepdog herding ducks & geese – if you weren’t there, check this out on the Northumberland Gazette website!  The West Percy foxhounds really enjoyed meeting show-goers, and towards the end of the afternoon the terrier racing provided the usual mayhem and hilarity before the serious business of prize giving where special mention must go to Jimmy Givens who won the Eslington Perpetual Cup again, 50 years from the day he first won it for his magnificent sweet peas.
The Committee would like to say a very big ‘THANK YOU!’ to John Guiry for allowing us to use his field for the show, and his help with the hill race (oops – the International Hill Race!) and to everyone who helped on the day and before – too many to mention, but the day couldn’t happen without you all – please pat yourselves on the back!
Preparation for the 2015 show is well in hand so please put the date in your diary – Saturday August 8, 2015 – we’ll be there, and it would be very lonely without you all…  Check back here for details as we will update this site as the form of the show develops.  And put the Coffee Morning date in your diary – Saturday, May 9 – this year’s schedule will be available there.
