It was with a very heavy heart that at about 9.30am on show day on a wet and muddy field we bowed to the inevitable and cancelled the Glanton Show, the first time in living memory this has happened.
Rainfall of biblical quantities over two days meant that despite our wish to put on as much of the show as was feasible the physical damage to the field itself was too great, and the safety of our visitors was at risk.
I apologise to all the exhibitors, traders and visitors who have been disappointed at the last minute many of whom had wasted journeys. We were desperate not to cancel if it could be avoided, but the day continued with almost constant rain, often heavy, so much of the event would have been a washout even if we had persevered.
I am also sorry for all the Committee Members and volunteers who give so much time to making the show happen, it is soul destroying to see hundreds of hours work and thousands of pounds expenditure go literally down the drain.
Please rest assured though that our resolve to put on an extra special show next year is undimmed, and it has been truly touching to have so many messages of support and donations from people who must have been as disappointed as we were.
I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday 8th August 2020.
